The purpose of this website is to try to help U.S. veterans and others determine where military records for themselves and their ancestors are located. This site is a work in progress so many pages may not be complete at this time.
If you are looking for Military Records that provide detailed information about an individuals service who served after 1910, you won’t find those Military Records online!!! Tons of companies including ancestry.com advertise military records. The only military records you will find online, however, are draft cards and other data which doesn’t really tell you what you want to know.
If you need Modern Military Records of an iindividual soldier, sailor or marine the only way to get them quickly is to go to the NPRC in St. Louis, or hire someone to go for you.
The individual military records of most Veterans from about 1910 to about 2003 are held by the National Archives at the National Personnel Records Center. Military records of more recently discharged veterans may be held by the branch of military they served in. Military Records for units, such as battalions, companies, divisions etc are held by the National Archives in various cities across the US. Most unit records are in the Washington DC area. Air Force records are in Alabama.
